The North Bay Peace Alliance invites you to join communities around the world to honour the 79th Anniversary of the dropping of the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan.
On Friday, August 9th at 8 pm, we will gather to remember the atomic attacks on Hiroshima (August 6th) and Nagasaki (August 9th) in Ione's Peace Garden beside Trinity United Church, on Ferguson Street at the corner of Ferguson and McIntyre Streets in North Bay.

The North Bay Peace Alliance invites you to attend local events Hiroshima Remembered, and Nagasaki Never Again. We will join communities around the world to honour the 75th Anniversary of the dropping of the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan when more than 200,000 people were killed.

Thursday, August 6th. 8 a.m.: A solemn commemoration of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima
Gather at the Sundial on the North Bay Waterfront at 8 a.m. The event will include a short-distance procession, readings and poetry, All are encouraged to wear black and/or white clothing. Please wear a mask or face covering. This event will practice physical distancing. All are welcome. 8:30 am: Shadow Project Workshop From August 6th to 9th North Bay and area residents are encouraged to create shadow images in their windows and on sidewalks and driveways. The silhouettes of men, women, children represent the shadows left on the pavement by those vaporized by the nuclear blast Aug. 6, 1945. This brief workshop will share information about techniques and materials. The workshop will take place in the shelter near the Marina on the North Bay waterfront immediately after the Hiroshima commemoration. |
Sunday, August 9th, 8 pm: A solemn commemoration of the atomic bombing of Nagasaki
Gather in the Civic Square at 100 Ferguson Street (in front of the North Bay Museum, beneath the pergola) in a physically distanced event; program includes readings, poetry, and music and concludes with candle lighting. Hiroshima and Nagasaki Remembrance An online event with New Hampshire Peace Action Speaker Masako Wada, Nagasaki survivor and Assistant Secretary General of Hidankyo, the Japanese organization of survivors of nuclear strikes on Friday, August 7 at 6:30 PM by zoom as we commemorate and remember the 75th anniversary of the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The Shadow Project uses simple technique to draw the outlines of persons with chalk on sidewalks or to place them in windows to symbolize the hundreds of thousands of residents of Hiroshima and Nagasaki who were vaporized in the blasts. Acknowledging Canada's Role: For the 75th anniversary of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasak, write a letter in support of Hiroshima survivor Setsuko Thurlow's request that the Prime Minister acknowledge Canada’s involvement in and contributions to the two atomic bombings and issue a statement of regret on behalf of the Canadian Government for the immense deaths and suffering caused by the atom bombs that utterly destroyed two Japanese cities. Let’s remember together the travesties and the heroes of these past 75 years The Travesties: The North Bay Peace Alliance invites everyone to contribute an event, incident, policy, speech, action etc which exemplifies the devastation wrought upon the earth the first 75 years of the nuclear age. The Heroes: The North Bay Peace Alliance invites everyone to contribute a name of a person, or group, which exemplifies the heroism which has marked the first 75 years of the nuclear age. We are looking for 75 (we know there are more) – one for each year. You can make your contribution using the online form created for this initiative.
